Is Cervical Whiplash could be a serious injury?
Whiplash is defined as an injury to the neck, by moving the head forward and then backward in a rapid fashion that places strain on the neck muscles and ligaments.Whiplash is most common when the victim has been rear-ended, or hit from behind by another vehicle but can result from physical abuse (such as shaken baby syndrome) or contact sports.
According to following calculation
Force on Driver in Example Car Crash
Impact Physics – Force of Collision Front Impact into vehicle
The symptoms of whiplash vary and are not limited to Restricted joint movement in spine or limbs
Displacement of spinal discs, also known as a herniation, which causes sharp pain down one or both arms; It also can create small tears in spinal tissue and damage the nervous system, which is followed by numbness, tingling and muscle weakness Chronic pain in the neck area Cognitive dysfunction that may include difficulty concentrating

The Severity of Whiplash
Example: A 160lb human crashing @30mph with a seatbelt experiences forces of up to 20g. Without a seatbelt those forces increase to 150g. That is not survivable.
According to the nerds at European Spine Journal in May of 2005 the physiological limits of the discs are reached @ 4g for C2 disc, 6g for C3 disc, and go up as you go down the c-spine until you hit 10g at the bottom.
This means that at forces greater than the above you will have subfailure injuries of the cervical discs
